To be honest, I don’t know enough about any one producer or artist to say that I can mimic or immulate a certain style. To be brutally honest I don’t think I’d want to. It’s not that I don’t admire producers and love their creativity, nor do I at any point believe that I’m better than anyone. My mind set in anything is never to be the best because it’s simply impossible. Yes you can have your corner of the earth but the world will never unanimously bow to your craft. However, my mindset was to be able to keep up or be able to hang with what’s out there and let your admirers fend for you.
After I graduated high school, I went to barber college while working as an apprentice in a barbershop. I remember that because I was the “new” barber, I had to take the barber station in the back of the shop. There was no tile on the floor where I was and I was also positioned beside the barbershop’s main trashcan. To make matters worse I shortly realized how much harder I would have to work to get customers. To add even more insult to injury, the shop was full of “cut-throat” barbers. Anyway I the moral of this story is to say that during that time I vowed to myself that I would never be a “cut-throat” barber or “cut-throat” anything for that matter. Whatever clients I obtain, I would obtain them by who I am and how I cut hair, not by underhanded gimmicks and/or crooked undertones. Thats how I approach music production, I’m in my lane and I love it here! There’s a sea of producers that even in my opinion are more established and seasoned but the truth is, it was never about who’s better, it’s about who’s chosen. That’s all any producer wants…to be chosen.
